Hollókő is a wellpreserved ethnographic village of the Palóc people in northern Hungary, in Szécsény district, Nógrád county.
The history of this town dates back to the 13th century with the construction of the castle on Mount Szár at an altitude of 365 m.
The old town, a true open-air museum, includes around fifty classified houses and buildings, including the wooden church built in the 16th century and which was used as a granary until 1889. The rustic houses illustrate the 17th-century palocze construction structure ( The “Palóc” constitute an ethnic group with a traditional culture specific to the region whose origins remain a mystery). The village museum represents exactly a “palocze” interior layout and brings together traditional and decorative objects. The weaving house presents the manufacture of weaving with ancient techniques.
.Parts of the old town are now used for tourism ,postal museum, people’s house, tourist hostel.

Highlights :
- Since 1987, Hollókő and its surroundings have been on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
- On the occasion of the festivities, the most spectacular of which are Easter, the inhabitants dress in their colored and richly decorated regional costumes.
- Every year at Easter, tourists can enjoy an old Hungarian tradition in which the village bachelors pour a bucket of water on the girls.
- Between Hollókő and Felsőtold, following the blue hiking trail from the castle, can we also admire the panorama of the Farkaskút Valley from a viewing platform shaped like a gigantic hand.
- On the Cserhát hills that surround the village there are the ruins of a 13th century castle. The castle was almost completely restored and has been open to visitors since 1996.
