The Franciscan monastery is a 15th-century ecclesiastical complex overlooking the sea at the western end of the island of Hvar in Croatia.

Just a few minutes walk from the Main square in Hvar, along the sea and the waterfront  the Franciscan monastery impresses from afar with its imposing exterior. This also includes the simple but extremely elegant bell tower, which was built in the Renaissance architectural style.
The Franciscan monastery originally served as a refuge for sailors, so it’s no wonder that inside the building you’ll find a large collection of Greek, Roman and Venetian coins. But other treasures such as amphorae, paintings by important painters and numerous other interesting exhibits that are waiting for you to visit are also part of the monastery museum.
However, the museum’s most important treasure is the atlas of the well-known cartographer, mathematician, astronomer and philosopher Claudius Ptolemy. At the Garden area  you will also find the approximately 400 year old cypress with elliptical branches – today a natural monument. The waterfront with the majestic Franciscan monastery as backdrop is Perhaps the best place for a selfie.
