Burano is an island near the island of Torcello at the northernmost end of the the Venetian Lagoon in northern Italy.
Burano is located northeast of the historic center of Venice. It is actually a group of four, formerly five islands located close together and connected by eight bridges.
Burano is famous for its small colorful houses which are extremely popular with artists. The colors of the houses follow a special system that was cultivated at the time when the settlement on the island developed. The interested owner should send a request to the government and then he will get the answer about the colors allowed on the island. Other attractions are the church of San Martino with the large curved bell tower, decorated with the work of the famous painter Gianbattista Tiepolo “Crucifixion” (1727). Finally, there is the Oratory of Santa Barbara, the Museum and the School of Lacemaking.
Burano definitely needs to be on the list if you’re looking for the most instagrammable places in Venice.
