The Delhi Iron Pillar or Mehrauli Iron Pillar is an archaeological relic and metallurgical curiosity located in the Qutub Minar complex in the southern suburbs of Delhi, India.
The pillar, which weighs more than three tons, is said to have been erected during the reign of Chandragupta II in the fourth century, but has also been dated to as early as 912 BC.
According to popular belief, anyone who stands with their back against the Iron Pillar, grasps it backwards with their hands and whose fingertips touch each other, is said to be particularly lucky.
The column became widely known because during the 1600 years of its existence it practically avoided corrosion.
Today , the Iron Pillar is one of the main attractions of Delhi and part of the Qutb complex, included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1993.
