Kyorinbo Temple is a small Buddhist temple in Azuchi-cho, which is now part of Omihachiman City,Shiga Prefecture, Japan.

Kyorinbo Temple is especially known for its autumn colors that surround the precincts, and is lit up in the fall According to legend, it was founded by Prince Shotoku in 605 AD. Prince Shotoku preached here and gave this place its name. The secluded world full of wabi-sabi atmosphere is said to have been created by Enshu Kobori. Moss-covered boulders stretched out of a magnificent scenic garden, and Maorong College, a designated cultural property of the city, is a sight to see.
In late autumn, about 300 old autumnal trees that fill the precincts of 2000 tsubo are dyed bright red, and the contrast with the thousands of bamboo grove that surrounds the area attracts many visitors.

  • The Temple it was named “Kyorinbo” because it was taught in a place surrounded by forests.Autumn leaves light up : Held every day from November 15th to December 5th. Approximately 200 old maple trees that fill the precincts and thousands of bamboo grove that surround them are illuminated with 150 lights.
  • The scenic garden made of megaliths made by Kobori Enshu is covered with moss, and the Shoin, storehouse, and mountain gate in the early Edo period are all thatched and have a wabi-sabi atmosphere.
  • The main hall enshrines many Buddhist statues, including a life-sized eleven-faced Kannon statue, a large statue of Nio, and a statue of Fudo Myo, a secret Buddha.
