The Zone of Silence – Zona del Silencio, is a desert area located in the north of Mexico in Bolsón de Mapimí.
The area is located within the Mapimí1 Biosphere Reserve, created by the Mexican Instituto Nacional de Ecología y Cambio Climático.
In July 1970, according to various sources, on the 2nd or the 11th, an Athena V-123-D type rocket launched by NASA crashed due to a technical fault at a distance of about 6 km from the rancho called San Ignacio, resulting in two, carried a small cobalt-57 bomb , Its original target would have been the White Sands Missile Test Site in the state of New Mexico, but it significantly missed its target.A road was built from the nearby station called Carrillo, on which the wreckage was transported, and hundreds of tons of earth were removed from the impact site, fearing the possible release of radioactive contamination into the environment. All this took place under strict security measures, which helped the development of urban legends.
The area is famous for the inability to receive radio signals and the failure of any means of communication. It has been compared to the Bermuda Triangle.
