Montmartre

Montmartre is a 130-meter-high hill located on the right bank of the River Seine, in the 18th District of Paris – France, mainly known for the white dome of the Sacré-Cœur Basilica , located at its summit.

better known as the painters’ neighborhood. Here you will see small, steep streets that make it one of the most peculiar neighborhoods in Paris. It is also known for the number of bars and cabarets, such as the Moulin Rouge where a large number of tourists meet for the shows that take place every night.

The village of Montmartre was an artistic and literary stronghold and popular tourist destination in the 19th century…during the Belle Epoque, many artists lived in, had studios, or worked in or around Montmartre, including Amedeo Modigliani, Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Edgar Degas, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Suzanne Valadon, Piet Mondrian, Pablo Picasso, Camille Pissarro, and Vincent van Gogh. Montmartre is also the setting for several hit films.

Today, the artists who exhibit their works on the Place du Tertre and make portraits, caricatures and silhouettes, attract mainly tourists.

Undoubtedly one of the places to visit in France during your trip. At present, it is a commercial neighborhood where several cafes, restaurants such as Cafe des 2 Moulins and cabarets such as Moulin Rouge and Lapin Agile are housed. The neighborhood extends from Place Pigalle to the Church of Sacre Coeur. It also houses the famous cemetery of Montmartre.

•  Basilique du Sacré-Cœur  – The Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Paris ,( 48.886694, 2.343 ) The Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Montmartre, is an important religious temple located in Paris (France). It is located on the top of the hill of Montmartre.
  It is a minor basilica dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Its construction was decided by the National Assembly in 1873, as a perpetual religious building in homage to the memory of the many French citizens who had lost their lives during the Franco-Prussian War.The floor of the building is more central than basilical. It has the shape of a Greek cross, adorned with four domes: the central dome, 80 m. high, it is touched by a flashlight, formed by a colonnade.
•  Cimetiere de Montmartre – Montmartre Cemetery , ( 48.887778, 2.330278 ) The cemetery of Montmartre (Cimetiere de Montmartre, in French) is a famous cemetery located at number 20 of Avenue Rachel, in the 18th arrondissement of Paris, France.
  Cemeteries had been banned in Paris since the closure of the Cimetiere des Innocents (‘Cemetery of the Innocents’) in 1786.1 as they presented health hazards. Several new cemeteries replaced all Parisians, outside the precincts of the capital, at the beginning of the 19th century: Montmartre in the north, the Cimetiere du Pere Lachaise in the east, Cimetiere de Passy in the west and the Cimetiere du Montparnasse in the south.
• place du Tertre – Artists’ Square ,( 48.886667, 2.340833 ) The Tertre Square is located in the 18th district of Paris, in France, on the Montmartre hill a few meters from Saint-Pierre de Montmartre and the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, The square is famous for portrait painters and painters, who exhibit and paint their works outdoors. It is one of the most emblematic places of Montmartre and one of the main tourist attractions of Paris. It is a memory of the Parisian bohemian of the nineteenth and early twentieth century, where Montmartre was the birthplace of Impressionism. • The Funicular de Montmartre ( 48.885278, 2.3425 ) could be compared with a kind of tram that connects the lower part of the Montmartre neighborhood with the upper part where we just get off we find the Basilica of the Sacred Heart and a little later, with the Plaza du Tertre, the famous Square where painters meet.
• Place Pigalle , ( 48.882167, 2.337278 ) is a square located in the IX District of Paris, between the Boulevard de Clichy and the Boulevard de Rochechouart, near the Sacre-C?ur, at the foot of the Montmartre hill , he square and the adjacent streets were, at the end of the 19th century, a neighborhood of studies of painters and literary cafes of which the most famous was the Nouvelle Athenes (New Athens)
• Church of Saint-Pierre de Montmartre , ( 48.886667, 2.341944 ) Saint Pierre de Montmartre is a church of the Montmartre district in Paris. Although the most famous church in the neighborhood is the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, the church of San Pedro is known as the place where, according to the biography of Ignacio de Loyola, the seven founders of the Society of Jesus pronounced their vows on 15 August 1534.
• Le mur des je t’aime – The Wall of Love ( 48.884625, 2.338431 )  is an artistically designed wall on Montmartre in the French capital Paris. The artwork is dedicated to love: The words “I love you” can be found here in more than 300 variants and 250 languages in the world. Since its establishment in 2000, Le mur des je t’aime has become a much-visited tourist attraction.
• Barbes – The Goutte-d’or ,( 48.887222, 2.353333 ) “Chateau-Rouge” (line 4) is known for its many exotic shops where you can find African, Caribbean or Asian products. You will also find on the cosmopolitan Dejean market, where prices are very low and attractive for many communities.
• Leon Square, the Rue de la Goutte-d’Or, the Boulevard Barbes are all places to visit in broad daylight but not very frequent at night.
• Rue de l’Abreuvoir : A picturesque street located in the Grandes-Carrieres district of the 18th arrondissement of Paris.
