Playa del Amor: the hidden beach of Mexico in the Marietas Islands, a group of small uninhabited islands a few miles off the coast of the state of Nayarit, Mexico.
On Redonda Island is Playa del Amor, better known as Playa Escondida. It is a cove of white sand hidden by a rock formation. To reach this secluded paradise, visitors have to swim through a short tunnel, which opens onto the stunning beach seen here.
Located in a kind of open-air crater and bathed in sunlight, this beach is artificial and was created by the explosion of a bomb that would have accidentally landed there during military tests of the past century. Nicknamed “the hidden beach” (Playa Escondida) or “the beach of love” (Playa del Amor), this sandbar only accessible at low tide attracts tourists from all over the world.
