The Puente Nuevo (“new bridge”) is a bridge structure in the city of Ronda in the Andalusian province of Málaga in southern Spain.
Built between 1751 and 1793, until 1839 it was the highest bridge in the world with a height of 98 meters. It unites the historic and modern areas of the city by saving the Tajo de Ronda, a gorge excavated by the Guadalevín river.The central arch includes a room which was used for a wide variety of purposes, including a prison in particular during the Civil War. The bridge currently houses a museum. The new bridge (puente nuevo ) is the most emblematic monument and a major tourist attraction of the city of Ronda.
