Spirit Island is a small island in Maligne Lake in Alberta’s Jasper National Park in Canada.
Depending on the water level of the lake, it is often connected to the shore by a narrow grassy land bridge, so that it is then just a peninsula.
Spirit Island is the lake’s main attraction. However, since it is only accessible by road at its northern end, 14 km away, it can only be reached by boat, after a longer hike or by kayak. The tree-covered island with the southern part of the lake and the peaks of the Rockies in the background is one of the most famous photo motifs in the Canadian Rocky Mountains.
