The Taj Mahal is a monumental mausoleum on the south bank of the Yamuna River in the Indian city of Agra.

It was commissioned by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan , to house the tomb of his favorite wife, Mumtaz Mahal. Although the white marble dome of the mausoleum is the most famous component, the Taj Mahal is a structurally integrated complex. Construction of the building began around 1632 and was completed in 1653. 20 thousand artisans and craftsmen worked. The total area of the temple complex is 17 hectares.
The Taj Mahal (also “Taj”) is considered the best example of Mughal style architecture, which combines elements of Indian, Persian and Arabic architectural styles. In 1983, the Taj Mahal was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site: “the jewel of Muslim art in India and one of the universally recognized masterpieces of the world heritage.”
The white marble mausoleum is widely considered one of the most beautiful buildings ever created and attracts from 7 to 8 million visitors annually.
