The black sandy beach of Solheimasandur in the south of Iceland, not far from Vik i Myrdal’s, is less than 160 kilometers from Reyjkavik, which should take about two hours depending on the weather conditions.

There is the wreckage of a US military machine, which crashed there in November 1973 for unknown reasons. There we get our ATVs and start the adventure. We will cross rivers, go to the promontory Dyrholaey, and go to Solheimasandur beach where the famous aircraft wreck is.

Tips : landowners have banned access to vehicles driving on the beach. You now have to walk 4km to the plane from the road. / Shuttle Bus to Solheimasandur Plane Wreck : The shuttle bus runs year-round from the parking lot every hour between 10:00-17:00. A round-trip ticket costs 2,000 ISK.( 20euro )
