One of the most impressive parts of the island of Kythera ( Greece ) is the rocky islet of Chytra or “Egg”, which is located 3 miles away of the port of Kapsali.

The rocky islet “Chytra” or “Egg”, which is located a short distance from the port of Kapsali of Kythera and is one of the most impressive parts of the island. It has a sea cave on its south side with colors that enchant you outside and inside the seabed. At the end of this cave there is a shelter for seals.

Climbing the rocky islet you have to be very careful because the ground is steep and rocky. On these steep cliffs, the black peregrines  have built their nests, a rare species and protected. Also in the inaccessible landscape of Chytra is blooming everywhere the local “flower” of the island “Sempreviva” which you collect in June from experienced locals due to the difficult passages.
You can visit the sea cave Chytra with one of the boats that make day trips, and swim in the cave. You can reach Kythira island by ferry from Piraeus, where the journey takes about 8 hours. But also from Gythio with a journey time of 3 hours or from Neapoli with a journey time of 1 hour.

Access : Coordinates: / The only ways to visit Chytra are by your own boat or if you are taken there by one of the inhabitants of the island or or with the boat of Captain Spyros that departs from Kapsali.
