Weligama is a small town and resort village in southern Sri Lanka in Matara County on the shores of a sandy bay in the Indian Ocean.

Weligama is primarily a resort for surf lovers. Most of its coastline is made up of wide golden sandy beaches without reefs and stones.
This quiet village mainly lives in fishing and tourism.
As for the Weligama beach, it is generally not bad. A wide sand strip with a length of about 3 kilometers is hidden in the bay, while the view is not spoiled by dense buildings near the water, and quite claims in some parts to be the ideal palm beach.
the conditions here are not the best for swimming: the beach is rather shallow, clay and slippery sand, not very clean,Near the west coast there is the small island of Taproban, where in 1927 the French Count de Mauny-Talvande built a luxurious snow-white villa with a red tiled roof. Now here is a five-star boutique hotel Taprobane Island, surrounded by tropical greenery.
There are cafes and restaurants, but not many. Sometimes dance shows are arranged. Local hotels offer Ayurvedic treatments.
