Gereja Ayam is a place of worship in Magelang, on the island of Java, Central Java, Indonesia.
The building was erected in the 1990s by Daniel Alamsjah, who claimed to have been inspired by God in one of his dreams in 19892. Although Alamsjah is a Christian, he wanted Gereja Ayam to be a place of worship for followers. of any religion, for prayer or meditation. Paris Match noted in 2015 that “people of different religions such as Buddhists, Muslims and Christians come to worship their divinity in the house of prayer”
Although the structure was built to take the shape of a dove, it has been given many names such as Chicken Church, Bird Church, or Pigeon Hill.
Since the building was never completed, it is in poor condition today. The walls are unpainted, weather and vandalism cause major damage. As a result of various appearances in several films, the church has achieved a level of notoriety and is now a tourist attraction.
