The 3,500 km² park area extends in the interior of the island over the high mountains with the Lac de Nino to the Col de Bavella in southern Corsica. The gulf, together with calanques de Piana, the gulf of Girolata and the Scandola reserve, has been integrated into the Unesco World Heritage Site since 1983.
