Santa Teresa is a resort town in the west of the Central American state of Costa Rica.
The little surf town is located approximately 150 km (93 mi) west of the capital San José.
Since the 1990s it has developed from a small fishing village into a constantly growing holiday resort. Santa Teresa’s Playa Carmen beach and that of the neighboring town of Mal País are particularly popular among surfers due to the high waves and constant wind.
