About The Wanders

We go where the crowds don't.

The Wanders is an independent editorial platform dedicated to Europe’s hidden places — the villages, coastlines, islands and city corners that most travelers never find. We exist for the curious. The ones who leave the main road.

The manifesto

Europe is not short of places.
It is short of the right ones.

The internet has made travel simultaneously more accessible and less interesting. The same ten destinations fill the same feeds, the same lists are written and rewritten, and the same photographs appear under a thousand different names. Everywhere feels crowded. Everywhere feels known.
We disagree with that version of Europe.

“There is a Europe that exists between the guidebooks. We go there.”

The Wanders was built on a simple conviction: that the most rewarding travel experiences are still out there, still quiet, still genuinely undiscovered — they just require someone willing to look a little further. A stone village in Mani where the taverna doesn’t take bookings. A beach in Portugal that doesn’t appear on any top-ten list. A canyon in Georgia that most Europeans couldn’t place on a map.
These are the places we write about. Not because they are secret for the sake of it — but because they reward the kind of traveler who travels with intention.

What we believe

01
Slow over fast
The best version of any place reveals itself to those who stay a little longer than planned. We write for travelers who are in no hurry.
02
Real over curated
We don’t write press releases. Every recommendation is editorially independent, based on genuine experience and honest judgment.
03
Depth over breadth
We would rather write one truly useful guide to a single village than a shallow list of fifty places we have never been.
04
Discovery as a value
Finding a place that feels entirely yours — even briefly — is one of travel’s last genuine pleasures. We protect and share that feeling carefully.
05
Seasonality matters
The right destination at the wrong time of year is a different place entirely. We write with seasons at the center, not as an afterthought.
06
Responsible curiosity
We share places thoughtfully, with awareness that the traveler’s presence is never neutral. We ask our readers to travel accordingly.

Founder & Editor · The Wanders

The Wanders began as a question: why does every travel guide point to the same places? After years of traveling across Europe — deliberately off the main roads, into the quieter corners — it became clear that the most interesting destinations were the ones nobody was writing about properly.

This publication is an attempt to fix that. To document the Europe that exists between the landmarks — honestly, carefully, and without an agenda beyond the destination itself.

How we work

Every piece of content on The Wanders is written with a single reader in mind: someone who wants to go somewhere genuinely worth going, and needs the kind of practical, honest information that makes that possible.
We accept partnerships with brands and destinations whose values align with ours. All sponsored content is clearly labeled. Our editorial voice does not change for commercial relationships, and we do not publish content we would not stand behind independently.
We believe that trust, once lost, cannot be bought back — so we protect our readers’ trust above everything else

Our values in practice

This is the heading

Editorial independence No destination pays to be recommended. Every Hidden Gem earns its place on its own merits.

This is the heading

Considered travel We think carefully about how and when we share fragile or quiet places with a wider audience.

This is the heading

Genuine experience We write from the ground, not from a press trip itinerary. Real places, real conditions, real advice.
