In the northeast of Karamay City ( Karamay is a city in Xinjiang Province in China ) ,about 100 kilometers (62 miles), there is a strange wind city called “Devil City” also called The Ghost Town.
The “The Ghost Town” is located on a hill of 300-400 meters above sea level, covering an area of about 60 square kilometers. In fact, it is not a city or a devil, but a wind-eroded landscape that has been shaped by wind for millions of years. The entire erea is ochre-colored, and the surface layer is composed of red clay. A thin layer of red clay is removed, and rocks appear.
Havoc or exquisite landscapes? By letting his imagination go, the traveler can see Cambodia’s Angkor Temple, the Egyptian Pyramids, the Beijing Temple of Heaven and many other monuments. Forms reminiscent of pagodas, pavilions but also animals or human beings have been shaped for years by erosion and the passage of the wind.
Ghost Town Scenic Area is 6 km from the suburb of Wuerhe. As a national-level AAAA scenic area, Being one of the few typical wind erosion landscapes in the world, the Ghost City has become a famous tourist area for its unique landform and the howling wind.
