The Singing Dune or Akkum-Kalkan is the name of the sand dune, which is located on the territory of the Alty-Emel National State Natural Park in the Almaty region in Kazakhstan.
The Akkum-Kalkan sandy ridge is part of the Kalkan mountain range. The length of the dune ridge is 3.4 kilometers, stretching from the northwest to the southeast, the width, in the central part, reaches 1.7 kilometers.
The Singing Dune is a natural phenomenon, famous for the fact that in dry weather the sands emit a sound similar to the melody of a ringing organ.”Singing sand” is under state protection as a natural monument. It is part of Altynemel National Park (since 1996).The Singing Dune is a popular tourist attraction.
