Puerto Escondido is a small holiday town on the Pacific coast in the state of Oaxaca in southern Mexico.
For a long time, Puerto Escondido was a fishing town that was difficult to reach. It was only discovered by surfers in the late 1950s and has experienced moderate tourist development since then.
Puerto Escondido is famous for the so-called Mex Pipe, a pipe wave on Playa Zicatela, which, along with a similar wave near Hawaii, is one of the largest waves of this type in the world. In autumn it reaches a height of up to ten meters.
Today Infamous for sun, sea, sand and surf, the city is primarily a destination for beach tourists and surfers.
