The Socotra dragon tree or dragon blood tree, is a dragon tree native to the Socotra archipelago, part of Yemen, located in the Arabian Sea.
Some calls the plant “one of the most bizarre trees in the world”. Academicians and famous researchers of Socotra, called this type of dracaena “a tree of amazing beauty”, similar to “a large mushroom with a green cap”
Dracaena cinnabari is endemic to Socotra, an archipelago east of Somalia that is politically part of Yemen. The main distribution area is at altitudes between 300 and 1500 meters, where the plants prefer to grow on soils containing limestone. The red-brown to brown-red dragon’s blood, a natural resin, is obtained from Dracaena cinnabari. The people of Socotra use it to cure stomach ailments, dye wool, make glue and decorate ceramics and their houses.
