Xcalak is a small village on the Costa Maya ,on the Caribbean coast ,in the state of Quintana Roo, part of the municipality of Oton Blanco,in Mexico.

Its beaches with gentle waves and crystal clear waters are the main attraction ,Located in the Mesoamerican Reef, Xcalak Reef National Park remains one of Mexico’s best kept diving secrets. The main activity is fishing and limited tourism, Diving in Xcalak  : Located in the Great Mayan Reef, Xcalak offers a variety of incredible dive sites, steep walls, canyons, swims and unique geographic formations to explore inhabited by a wide variety of sea creatures.

  • The Xcalak Arrecifes National Park is home to more than 800 species of plants and animals.
  • Banco de Chinchorro (Chinchorro Banks Biosphere Reserve). The Chinchorro Reef lies just offshore from Xcalak, It is a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve.
  • Dive sites : La Poza is the most famous dive site in Xcalak also known as The Tarpon Hole / The Chiminea / La Pozeta / Cannons , Nice dive site located near Xcalak./ Hob-Na and Punta Gavilán.
  • Fly fishing : Xcalak is known for fly fishin , is one of the best destinations for fly fishing, throughout the year you can fish for mackerel, tuna, barracuda, grouper, snapper and tarpon; and from April to June, there are plenty of dorado, marlin and sailfish.
  • Both the saltwater flats and inland lagoons are fantastic for kayaking and SUP.
  • Xcalak is the southernmost town on the Mexican Caribbean Coast, near Belize.You can explore the lagoons located in the jungle around the beach , or the five lighthouses , three of them are near the city and another is in La Aguada, in Chetumal Bay.
