The Reichenbach Falls (Reichenbachfall) are a series of waterfalls on the Reichenbach, near Meiringen in the canton of Bern in Switzerland.
The waterfall is widely famous for several reasons. In addition to the size of the waterfall itself and the beauty of the surrounding nature, the nearby town of Meiringen is known as the birthplace of meringue, a dessert made from powdered sugar and beaten egg whites.
Another reason for his fame is Sherlock Holmes. In popular culture, the Falls are known as the place where Arthur Conan Doyle’s hero, Sherlock Holmes, meets his enemy Moriarty for their final stand. At the observation deck at the waterfall there is a memorial plaque in honor of the centenary of this event. In the 19th century, the English painter J. M. W. Turner made some paintings about the falls.
The waterfall is one of the most photogenic spots in Europe and decently a Insta-worthy place.
