The Stari Most (“the old bridge”) of Mostar is a 16th century bridge which connects the two parts of this city in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The world-famous Stari Most connects the more Muslim-influenced eastern part of the city with the more Catholic-influenced western part of the city and has therefore been considered a symbolic link between East and West for centuries. With a clear width of 28.7 meters and 19 meters high (at the apex above the Neretva), it was a masterpiece of engineering at the time of its construction in 1566.
The Stari Most and its surroundings in the heart of the Old Town of Mostar were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005. The area offers lots of restaurants , gift shops , cafes and restaurants that overlook the river and the bridge.
