Pen y Wan is the highest peak in South Wales , situated in Brecon Beacons National Park , United Kingdom.
Pen y Fan It rises to an altitude of 886 meters and has a peak height of 671 meters. It is located in the Brecon Beacons National Park, in the county of Powys.
On the way to the summit there is an obelisk commemorating five-year-old Tommy Jones, who died here in August 1900. Tommy Jones, son of a Rhondda miner, got lost at Cwm Llwch Farmhouse while returning home from visiting his grandparents. The spot where his body was found after a 29-day search was marked by this obelisk, which has served as a guide for hikers ever since.
Due to the ease of access through the flat terrain, there are many routes and paths to the mountain. The main road on the way to the top is the A470. Pen y Van is one of the landmarks on the Brecon Beacons tourist route. Some paths are laid out to make it easier to navigate steep slopes. They are also safe routes in bad weather, such as fog, rain, snow or ice.
