Short Description

Franconian Switzerland-Veldenstein Forest Nature Park (German: Naturpark Fränkische Schweiz-Veldensteiner Forst) is a nature park in North Bavaria. The nature park was established in 1995 and it covers an area that is almost coextensive with the natural region major unit of Northern Franconian Jura. With an area of 2,346 km2 (906 sq mi) it is the second largest nature park in Bavaria after the Altmühl Valley Nature Park.

Covering an area of more than 2,300 square kilometres, the quality-certified Nature Park Fränkische Schweiz in the Franconian Jura, between the towns of Bamberg, Bayreuth and Nuremberg, is one of the largest nature parks in the whole of Germany. The park covers much of the regions of Franconian Switzerland and the Veldenstein Forest, featuring dramatic limestone formations, deep valleys, and over 1,000 caves with magnificent stalactite formations.

The park’s diverse ecosystems support an impressive array of wildlife that will delight nature enthusiasts. Rare birds of prey find perfect places to nest up in the steep cliff faces. The region’s wildlife includes:
