Paard van Marken is a lighthouse in the municipality of Waterland in the province of North Holland, Netherlands.
The lighthouse is located on the eastern tip of the peninsula Marken ,a closed-off inland bay in the central Netherlands.
The first beacon on Marken was put into operation in 1700. It was one of a chain of lighthouses on what was then the Zuiderzee, of which only De Ven remains. The lighthouse has been recognized as a Rijksmonument , a national heritage site of the Netherlands since January 14, 1970.
Since the building looks like a horse from a distance and with some imagination, it is called Paard van Marken ( Horse of Marken). This lighthouse is currently still inhabited and therefore cannot be visited.
