Men meets the Sea ( Danish : Mennesket ved Havet ) is a nine meter high contemporary sculpture , in Esbjerg , on the southwest coast of Denmark.
The monument consists of a sculpture depicting four seated men, each of whom is 9 meters high, gazing towards the sea. The sculpture was designed by Svend Wiig Hansen and inaugurated on 28 October 1995 to celebrate the city’s 100th anniversary in 1994.
Man Meets the Sea has become one of the main tourist attractions in the area , a symbol of Esbjerg and a favorite photo location. The monument can be seen from the sea ten kilometers away when the weather is good.
