Nyboder is a historic district of row houses from former naval barracks in Copenhagen, Denmark.
The Nyboder Houses it was first built by Christian IV to meet the housing needs of the rapidly growing Royal Danish Navy personnel and their families. Although the area is still commonly associated with its founder’s name as one of his many building projects around Copenhagen, today’s Nyboder was actually, with the exception of one row of houses in St. Polsgad, built from 1757 onwards.
Today, Nieboder is associated with their yellow color, and “Niboder live” is often used in Danish as a term for their shade of yellow. However, the initial design color was red and white.
