Silfra is a rift located in Lake Thingvallavatn in Thingvellir National Park in Iceland. It is part of the divergent boundary between the North American Plate and the Eurasian Plate.
Due to the clear water, the Silfra Fissure is a popular diving area – despite a water temperature of only 2-4 °C. However, the Silfra fissure is ideal for divers and snorkelers not only because of the lava field formations and the crystal-clear water, but also because of its special location: it lies on the interface between the continental plates of America and Europe.
