Klitmøller is a small, old fishing village on the coast in northwestern Jutland in Denmark.
Klitmøller was an important place in the schooner trade between Jutland and southern Norway until the second half of the 19th century. The nature is very pure and the area is quiet. There are a number of shops and eateries in the village itself.
The small fishing village has developed into a tourist capital since the 1980s: strong westerly winds and constant surf offer optimal conditions for surfers. Today Klitmøller is one of the most famous surfing areas in Europe and is marketed under the name “Cold Hawaii”.
The surfer’s paradise of Klitmøller has been the venue for the Danish windsurfing championships since the 1990s. The European Championships have also taken place here several times, including in 1996, 1998 and 2010. Kitesurfing is also popular, but can only be practiced outside the protected areas during the breeding season. Klitmøller is also the venue for the Professional Windsurfers Association World Tour.
