The Monastery of Saint Ivan of Rila , short Rila Monastery , is an Orthodox monastery in the Rila Mountains in southwestern Bulgaria.
The Rila Monastery located in the Rila Mountains of Bulgaria, in a spectacular location in the Rylski River Gorge . Founded in the 10th century, it is the most important and largest monastery in Bulgaria and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The complex is one of the 100 national tourist objects. Today The Rila monastery offers accommodation for pilgrims and tourists.
