Tatev Monastery is a Armenian apostolic monastery located near the village of Tatev in the Syunik Province of southeastern Armenia.
The monastery was built between the 10th and 13th centuries, on the site of an ancient sanctuary, The Tatev Monastery located about 250 kilometers by road from Yerevan. It can be reached on a minor road that branches off the M2 to the south between Sisian and Goris. The H46 continues south via Tandzaver to Kapan. Tatev is also the name of the village located near the monastery.
Since October 16, 2010, the monastery has been connected to the town of Halidzor by the Tatev cable car across the Vorotan Gorge. Visitors can now reach the monastery all year round in eleven minutes. At 5,750 meters, the cable car is the longest aerial tramway in the world designed in one section with a continuous supporting cable.
Tatev Monastery is one of the most important architectural monuments in the country.
