Giethoorn is a village in the Overijssel ,a province of the Netherlands located in the eastern part of the country.
Giethoorn called “the Venice of the North” because of the many canals in town. This village, which is eight kilometers long and winds its way around a village canal (dorpsgracht), is located on the edge of the “De Wieden” nature reserve.
The village is crossed by numerous cross canals. The characteristic wooden bridges of this “water village” are built over the canals. Giethoorn is located in the largest lowland moor area in Western Europe, which includes the Weerribben-Wieden National Park. Giethoorn is a tourist attraction, visited by more than a million tourists every year.
