Jūrmala is a resort town on the Gulf of Riga and is located 15 kilometers west of Riga ,the capital, of Latvia.

The modern city was formed from a series of resort ( fishing ) villages, united over time. It occupies the territory of the Riga seaside, which stretches 32 km long and 3 km wide between the Gulf of Riga and the Lielupe River.
The most famous resort areas of Jurmala are Bulduri, Dzintari, Majori, Dubulti, Pumpuri and Melluzi. Dzintari is considered an elite area; there is a famous concert hall here, which hosts international festivals and performances by famous artists.
There are many hotels and guesthouses in the city that offer the widest selection of tastes. There are swimming pools , tennis courts and yacht clubs. Jūrmala offers various cultural, recreational and sports activities.

Highlights :

  • Beaches : The beaches of Jaunkemeri and Pumpuri are good for windsurfing / The beaches of Melluzi, Asari and Vaivari / Majori and Dzintari are the most popular beaches in Jurmala / The beaches of Dubulti and Bulduri are quite quiet. This is a great place to relax with children / Lielupe Beach is used for boat parking and active sports; swimming is not allowed.
  • The city of Jūrmala is known for its seaside resort and its high standard of living, it is nicknamed by some the “Saint-Tropez of Latvia”.
  • The city of Jūrmala hosts numerous festivals and concerts every year. The most popular for tourists is the New Wave which has been held every year since 2002. Usually, this festival takes place from the end of July to the beginning of August and lasts about six days.
  • Top sights in Jūrmala : The Dzintari Concert Hall was built in 1936  / The beaches of Jurmala are famous for their purest white  sand and extend over a distance of more than 30 km. The beach area starts from the village of Bulduri, the oldest district of Jurmala. / Open-air museum – Jūrmalas brīvdabas muzejs / Horn gardens  / Majori Guesthouse / The Emīlija Rācene Swimming Center, built between 1911 and 1916 and used as a medical institution. / The Marienbāde Sanatorium  built in 1870 / National Rehabilitation Center “Vaivari”. / The Jurmala Ethnographic Museum houses examples of life that once existed in the fishing villages along the coast. / Jomas Street , one of the oldest streets of Jūrmala / Dzintari forest park. / Dzintari Watchtower.
