Lake Tovel (lago di Tovel) is a small alpine lake in the province of Trento, in the Italian region of Trentino-Alto Adige.
Lake Tovel located At an altitude of 1,178 m above sea level and has been recognized as a wetland of international importance under the Ramsar convention.
The lake became known because of the algal blooms that occurred in the warmer summer months until the mid-1960s and gave the lake a dark red color, which is why it was also called the “red lake”,Lake Tovel was also called Bear Lake, because there are brown bears in the valley.
