Omalo is one of the central villages in the Tusheti region , a historic region in northeast Georgia.
Omalo is located between the Great Caucasus Mountain Range and the Pirikita Mountain Range, 8 km from the border with Dagestan, Russia. The only access road to Omalo is through the Abano Pass (2850 meters). This is the main village of the historical region of Tushetia. Due to the high mountain location and lack of well-maintained roads, Omalo is virtually isolated from the rest of Georgia for most of the year.
