Vila de Frades is a small town in the Alentejo region in the district of Vidigueira , Portugal.
The village is located on the Alentejo plain, approximately 100 km from the Atlantic coast. The region was known as “Cale de Talha”, due to its wine production in talhas. During the Middle Ages, Vila de Frades was an important agricultural and wine-growing center.
The most important local product is Talha wines, the tradition of its production dating back to Roman times. Today Vila de Frades is considered the capital of Talha wines and the village became a tourist destination.
